Cheri Huber is the founder of the Zen Center in Palo Alto, California, and the Zen Monastery Peace Center in Murphys, California. She is the author of There Is Nothing Wrong with You; Transform Your Life; What You Practice Is What You Have; and When You’re Falling, Dive. She lives in Murphys, California. Ashwini Narayanan is a student of Cheri Huber, has cofacilitated and created workshops with her, and currently runs the operations of the two nonprofits that Cheri founded. Resistance Be Gone!

I saw this book at the bookstore and it spoke to me immediately in the design, the font, the graphics. My ego is very harsh and demanding. It is a tyrant that believed unquestioningly that I sucked, was lazy, and a failure.

I have gotten to a place where I recognize that negative expression of my ego as detrimental to my well being. Where I haven't gotten is how to bring fresh, positive energy into the place where all that bad stuff lived. This book helps me to visualize all the posturing, angry, certainty as energy that can't be simply shut down but must be transformed into a positive, useful force.

best book on transcending resistance and more

I don't usually "feel like" writing reviews, but this book is so wonderful and helpful that I was able to "transcend my resistance" and didn't listen to the voices saying that this is a waste of time. :) If you ever feel like you don't want to do something or procrastinate, get the book! After reading it and doing the exercises, I've learnt how to direct my attention where I want it to be and it makes all the difference! Thank you, Cheri and Ashwini for this great book!

I am an avid Huber fan. This caps it, nipping resistance at the bud. Amazons price is much better than other places. Hope this becomes a kindle book. Hope all her books are put on kindle. Gives a wonderful understanding of the sequence on how we get in the way of ourselves by just not allowing us to be. Examples based on email exercises reinforces the potency of these exercises. If your a fan you must buy this book

Peter Arnold's Dark Skinned Models are geased up or dipped in some type of oil. This gives them a High Gloss effect. Their bodies become free flowing sculptues. I have never seen anything like this. Each photo is a true work of Art. I'm proud to have this book openly displayed. Everyone has fallen in love with the images.

BLACK IS THE NEW GOLD!

The photos in this book are pieces of art. I'd love to have one hanging on a stark white wall. Some of the photos where the black skin appears to be molten gold are really amazing. I really loved those. Of course the men are beautiful, but the photographs show the pride of these men, well deserved of course, and their dignity.

Black is Beautiful, but not this book

Waited for this book to arrive with bated breath. Finally a book dedicated to black men. Some other books that I have had the opportunity to view have had at most 3 black models out of one-hundred pages or more. Ok, so the book quality, binder and page feel were great, but the pictures seemed to be 2nd tier quality. I was totally disappointed. i will think twice before buying another book by Mr. Arnold.

About the Author
Norris is Professor Emeritus of Church History at Union Theological Seminary, New York City, Priest Associate of the Church of St. Ignatius of Antioch, and Diocesan Canon in the Diocese of New York. He has taught and written extensively on the history and development of doctrine in the early church.

William G. Rusch, a Lutheran pastor, is professor of Lutheran studies at Yale Divinity School and professor of church history at New York Theological Seminary.

Christological Controversy:

The patristic texts in this fine book, are meticulously chosen, well translated literature, a collection of documents relevant to early christological doctrine of the patristic church. Professor Richard Norris elaborated an informative introduction narrating the development of Christian thought about the person of Christ in the era of the church fathers. Starting with early christology, he explained its initial problems, and introduced the patristic authors, and their thought on Christology and the related subjects. He gave due attention, and space to the impact of Origen's view of the Logos and how his neo Platonic language was interpreted by his disciples, both orthodox and heterodox.

The earliest text translated comes from Justin Martyr. When the ideas and problems which were to dominate christological thought were first crystallized, Melito of Sardis, whose writing introduced here, were discovered lately. An excellent translation of the work of Irenaeus, the most important of the second century fathers, is an effective refutation of Gnosticism, whose sects and doctrines dominated the pagan intellect. The first confrontation between Athanasius and the Alexandrine Orthodoxy with Antiochene teaching in Lybian Presbyter Arius, who resided in Alexandria.

The latest text is the known 'Definition of Faith' of the Schismatic Council of Chalcedon ( 451). Chalcedon has been enforced by Marcian and Pulcheria, it was 'generally' accepted as defining the guidelines of christology in the west but caused the separation of Alexandria, and later Antioch, the two major churches in the empire.

Christological meddling:

"Rome commissioned John Cassian to write a refutation of this new version ...and in August 430 sent a formal letter, to be forwarded on to Nestorius, demanding recantation...-Cyril accompanied it with a strong dogmatic letter (his third letter) tersely demanding Nestorius' assent to 'Twelve Anathemas'.... These formidable documents were handed to Nestorius eleven days after Theodosius had issued a summons for a council.." (Henry Chadwick, The Early Church, pp 194-200)

The prominent ecclesiastical historian, John Meyendorff (Past President of NA Patristic society) meticulously states about Leo that : "He reacted by expressing his opinion without taking the time to inform himself, with real thoroughness of the circumstances, the vocabulary and the problematic involved in the debates. He held undoubtedly, a conviction that Peter spoke through him, as gifted as Janus with both hindsight and foresight."

Theological Definitions:

This book is astonishing!

If you buy only one book on astrology, make it this one. I have read and enjoyed many books on astrology, but never before have I been as consistently amazed by the accuracy of insight into the personalities of people that the authors have never met. I think even many long-time astrologers will be startled by how good a portrait one can draw knowing only the Sun sign and Moon sign.
I doubt that any astrology text could be 100 percent accurate--occasionally there's a few false notes, and once or twice the reading has been a complete miss. But in the large majority of cases, I have found that the analysis of each Sun/Moon type reads like a description written drawn by a close, insightful friend of the subject--describing specific qualities that would not apply to most people.
I must have 75 astrology books on my shelves--this is the one I'd recommend first, to a beginner or to a pro.
P.S. Charles and Suzi, how about writing a book describing Sun signs in each house?

Best Book on Sun / Moon sign combinations

Contents summary: Interprets all 144 combinations of Sun and Moon sign in the birth chart separately (420pp). Introduction, including discussion of the Sun, Moon and the elements (46pp). Tables of precise Sun and Moon sign change times, and time zone corrections (96pp).

Charles Harvey, a leading astrological scholar of the later 20th century, died a couple of years ago aged not far from 60, but left behind this modern masterpiece of properly researched basic natal astrology, which originates in the study of real people and draws as much detail out of each of the 144 Sun/Moon combinations as could be hoped for. The interpretations are each substantial in length but concise and packed with observational detail, building very significantly on Grant Lewi's pioneering treatment of the combinations from the 1940s. They inevitably round people up and sometimes typecast the extreme manifestations of each combination a little over-assuredly. They are of course subject to the modifying influence of non-Sun/Moon sign factors in the birth chart, but they come as close as they can given their scope. Indispensable reference book.

I was at a party, when a friend cracked open this book. One by one, we each calculated our moon signs (which none of us had even heard of before). chart was super easy to read. And we were all almost in tears, over how acurate the descriptions were. Each description is only 2-3 pages, but soooo right on.
I'm suspicious of astrology, so i read some other descriptions and they were not me at all. So, i feel pretty confident that it is not just worded so everyone can relate.

I very much appreciate this Author and have just started reading this book and am so exited about the content and the potential for my learning more in depth about what it is to be a Taoist. Eva Wong is the REAL thing. This lady researches deeply and is a scholar plus she lives what she writes.

I think to engage meaningfully in this book, one has to have an idea of what Taoism is. She has a previous book that she wrote entitled: Taoism: An Essential Guide. I read that one cover to cover. As I hear, Taoism for Dummies is also pretty good!

By reading Eva Wong's books, I feel like I have a teacher through her books and through the thoroughness, the depth,, the fullness, the integrity of the information and the user-friendly format that she imparts in her writing. But it is study. If you want to expand in depth and widely your relationship with being a Taoist, this is the book for you.

She also has many other books related to Taoism.

I also suggest, before you delve in, make sure you are ready for the book. Check it out on Amazon: the table of content and some pages to make sure it pulls you in and to make sure you are ready for it. It is with great pleasure that I give this recommendation!

I love this one because it gives so much practical information

I have read many of Wong's books. I love this one because it gives so much practical information. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in Taoism.

Less perplexing
